Born in Paestum in 1989, Mario Scairato has been captivated by his hometown’s culture and history since childhood. The classical architecture, mythology, and natural beauty of the Paestum region continue to be a major source of inspiration for his work. After graduating in industrial design in 2012 from IUAV in San Marino, he began working on themes related to the city of Paestum: he created a collection of souvenirs and gave life to Spazio Paestum, a place dedicated to exhibitions and events to promote the territory. Since 2012, he has been living in Milan, where he focuses on furniture and product design, while also lending his artistic direction to projects in various sectors, including commercial, tourism, art, and culture. His design philosophy centres on researching traditional processes, knowledge, and materials, which he reinterprets with an innovative approach, resulting in simple yet contemporary forms. Scairato’s work is characterised by strong graphic lines and a considered use of colour. His designs have been exhibited at the Triennale di Milano, ADI Design Museum, Rossana Orlandi Gallery, Casa do Design Matosinhos, and Design Museum Holon. He has created products for numerous Italian companies, including Abet Laminati, Alessi, Bulgari, Dnd, Internoitaliano, Lispi, Lithea, Moleskine, and Tenuta Vannulo.
